Grant provides counseling to South Dakota homeowners in danger of foreclosure
Pierre, SD - SDHDA was awarded $52,979 to support free foreclosure prevention counseling efforts in South Dakota. This will enable SDHDA sub-grantees: Consumer Credit Counseling Services of the Black Hills (CCCS-BH), Neighborhood Housing Services of the Black Hills, Inc. (NHS) and Northeast South Dakota Community Action Program (NESDCAP) to provide more foreclosure counseling than ever before to area homeowners in danger of foreclosure.
“The goal of this funding is to reduce the default and foreclosure of mortgages on owner-occupied single-family homes,” said Executive Director Mark Lauseng. “Other states in the nation have seen dramatic increases in foreclosures. Although South Dakota’s foreclosure numbers are significantly less than those, we are taking a proactive approach to prevent foreclosures through the administration of this counseling program.”
These sub-grantees estimate that over 300 clients will receive free foreclosure counseling through this funding – and many more will be helped by the training of foreclosure counselors, provided through the National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling program.
