Johnson Announces $213,500 for the South Dakota Community Action Program

Washington, DC – February 7, 2008 - U.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) today announced that the Northeast South Dakota Community Action Program (NESDCAP) will receive a $213,500 grant from NeighborWorks America. Funding will be used to expand affordable housing opportunities and community development activities.

“NESDCAP has a strong history of assisting South Dakotans find and maintain affordable housing. I am please that the work of such a worthy organization will receive this continued support,” said Johnson. “A key part of my Hometown Prosperity Plan is investing in the public good, and this funding is a wonderful example of an investment.”

The NeighborWorks Program makes homeownership more accessible for lower-income families around the state and provides counseling for homeowners who are at risk of losing their homes.

Senator Johnson’s Hometown Prosperity Plan is a four-pillar agenda for advancing South Dakota’s economy from the federal level. The four pillars, or strategies, include “Promoting Partnerships,” “Emphasizing Entrepreneurship,” “Investing in the Public Good,” and “Protecting Pocketbooks.” The full plan includes specific actions related to each strategy and can be downloaded from http://johnson.senate.gov.
