WASHINGTON, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — South Dakota Housing Development Authority (SDHDA) awarded Jeff Mitchell with the “Friend of Housing” award during SDHDA’s 26th Annual Housing Conference held last week in Pierre. Mr. Mitchell was honored for his dedication and contribution to affordable housing in South Dakota. He serves as an integral housing advocate to his community and also to the region on housing related issues.
“Jeff was chosen as the recipient of the Friend of Housing Award because he goes above and beyond offering assistance, knowledge and expertise in homeownership possibilities,” said Mark Lauseng, Executive Director of SDHDA. “He serves as a valuable resource to our state on a variety of housing related issues and is always willing to put in the extra work.”
Mr. Mitchell’s career includes over 10 years of affordable housing experience. Under his leadership, Homes Are Possible, Inc. has undertaken the construction of 200 homes, been involved in 11 subdivisions, four Tax Increment Financings and educated thousands with homeownership information.
Not only does Mr. Mitchell raise the visibility of housing needs in his own community of Aberdeen, but he has reached out to other communities such as Groton, Ipswich, Sisseton, and Mobridge among others. His organization has become a model that has been replicated in other communities.
Mr. Mitchell recognizes the importance of partnering with others to accomplish goals. He has worked with USDA-Rural Development, SDHDA, Board of Realtors, Presentation Sisters, Aberdeen Housing Authority and Mobridge Development taking a multi-pronged approach to the housing efforts he undertakes.
The Friend of Housing Award was started 17 years ago to recognize individuals who are instrumental in providing affordable housing in South Dakota. Annually, SDHDA accepts nominations for the award and announces the recipient at their annual housing conference.
