SDHDA Encouraging Participation in Housing and Community Development Public Meetings
PIERRE, S.D. – January 11, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — South Dakota Housing Development Authority (SDHDA), in partnership with the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED), is encouraging public participation in upcoming housing and community development meetings.
The purpose of the public meetings is to obtain citizens’ views, answer questions and discuss housing and community development needs. Information gathered at these meetings will be utilized to establish goals and prioritize funding.
Annually the state of South Dakota receives approximately $9 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to support the development of viable communities by providing decent housing, suitable living environments and expanded economic opportunities to low- and moderate-income persons.
SDHDA and GOED annually prepare a planning document (Annual Action Plan) that outlines how the $9 million of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG), and HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) program funds will be allocated.
In addition to the 2016 Annual Action Plan, allocation plans for the following SDHDA housing finance programs will be discussed: HOME Program, Housing Tax Credit Program, Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) Program and Housing Opportunity Fund. The Citizen Participation Plan, which outlines how SDHDA and GOED solicit public participation will also be addressed.
SDHDA is anticipating the funding of the National Housing Trust Fund in 2016. This is a new rental housing program for extremely low- and very low-income households. SDHDA will utilize the public meetings to gather input on how the funds should be administered for South Dakota.
